Do You Have What It Takes?

Last year, 260 people went Down for the Challenge to fight homelessness (watch here). Do you have what it takes to join us this year on July 29? All money raised for Down for the Challenge will support The Salvation Army’s housing and homeless prevention programs in the Twin Cities. These programs are a lifeline for those experiencing homelessness, helping people and families to secure safe housing and a brighter future.

Rappelling for a Cause

Homelessness is on the rise and The Salvation Army is meeting the need, but we need your help.

Currently, there are 77,000 Minnesota households* behind on their rent, 80% of them from low-income households. There are over 10,000 individuals who are experiencing homelessness in the Twin Cities alone.

For every $1,000 a rappeler raises a life can be transformed. This money provides:

  • Rent/mortgage assistance that prevents a family from being evicted.
  • Safe and dignified emergency shelter, meals, and related care for 17 individuals.
  • 4,200 meals to help families in need stretch their budgets and remain in their home.

Real Life Story

Lauren, 40, spent much of her life in darkness. For years she battled addiction, mental health issues, physical abuse, and homelessness.

The single mother and her daughter spent five months living in a shelter for victims of domestic violence.

After months of roadblocks and dead ends, she received a life-changing call from The Salvation Army. A case manager informed Lauren that she could move into a Salvation Army permanent supporting housing unit. The Salvation Army operates dozes of these units throughout the Twin Cities, with residents paying on a sliding scale and receiving professional case management services.

Lauren moved in April 1, 2021 and has been making positive steps ever since. She has been sober for four years and now has all three of her kids living with her under one roof.

“Today I have a happy, healthy quality of life – better than I ever thought possible,” Lauren said. “Each day, I work hard to make good new habits. I have the confidence to tackle any barriers thrown my way.”

She is grateful for the help she received thanks to your support of The Salvation Army.

“When you donate to The Salvation Army, it gives someone like me a chance at life again,” Lauren said. “I’m happy and healthy for the first time in my life. I couldn’t be more grateful.”
